Samsung Galaxy M20 Smartphone Review

South Korea’s Samsung Galaxy M20 is one of two smartphones recently introduced by the company as part of India’s first Galaxy M series. With a lot of risks involved, the company has downloaded the premium device (M20) series with features that have never been part of Samsung devices. These features include a 5000 mAh battery, a removable display, a custom interface and much more.

With paper, the Galaxy M20 can look like the next generation of smartphones. But does it have the features and performance to compete in the same segment? Let’s find out:

design

The Galaxy M20 has a simple design. Unlike smartphones with the same chip, the M20 has a shiny plastic that is built without reflective properties or glass gradients. The glossy nature of the plastic makes the body of the phone very sensitive to fingerprints. It is easy to detect. It’s something you don’t want, especially if you don’t want to use a back cover. Also, the fingerprint sensor is abnormally placed on the back, which makes its use uncomfortable.

However, the front has a completely different profile. The new display dropped into the water drops looks modern and complements the phone’s comprehensive design language. The phone has a long funky aspect ratio display. Although the phone fits perfectly in your hand and feels comfortable to use, it may be difficult for people with small hands to use the phone with one hand.

Display

The Galaxy M20 has a 6.3-inch FullHD + TFT display and can measure up to 19.5: 9. It produces bright colors and has satisfactory viewing angles. However, it lacks a deep black level AMOLED display. Thus, the overall variance is at best a disease, but it is not a class leader.

The screen is protected by Asah’s Dragonair Glass. The glass is scratch-resistant and can resist coins and keys in your pocket, which can cause major damage. Although this glass is not mentioned in promotional items or in the phone case, it was confirmed by a company spokesman at the time of the introduction of the M-series.

It’s not exactly a display feature, but your phone is certified with Widevine L1, which allows you to stream high-definition multimedia content available on platforms (OTT) such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, etc.

camera

Behind the M20 is a dual camera. It has a 13-megapixel main camera with f / 1.9 aperture, a 5-megapixel playback camera, and a wide-angle lens. In economic smartphones, the rear cameras operate satisfactorily in all lighting conditions. Close the focus right away, adjust the settings to the lighting conditions, and take detailed pictures without delay.

The secondary camera is useful for taking wide-angle shots of monuments or landscapes.

Interestingly, both rear cameras work independently, which means you can take a picture or video with a standard 13MP lens or wide-angle lens. This is a good addition, keeping in mind that some videos require wide-angle recordings for the picture to be correct. However, the lens cannot be changed while recording a video.

There is an 8MP f / 2.0 lens slot in front. The front camera has features that attract selfie friends. It also acts as a face detector to unlock the phone, which works in a very bright environment, but cannot work in low light. The camera takes detailed pictures for printing. Due to its fixed autofocus length, it only exports selfies.

performance

The Galaxy M20 works with the Exynos 7904 (SoC) chipset, with 3GB or 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB internal storage, respectively. The phone starts with Samsung Experience 9.5 (UI) based on Android Oreo. The phone feels smooth in everyday operation. No weakness or slowdown occurs when dealing with graphics-intensive games like PUBG and Asphalt 9: Legends. It also shows no delays or inconsistencies when running multiple applications in the background or performing multiple tasks.

While performance is a class leader, it is a new interface that enhances the overall experience. The interface has features that work well with the phone audience, Millennials. One of these features is the lock screen stories that show photos and videos from the Internet on the lock screen so they look new every time.

Battery

The Galaxy M20 is the first Samsung smartphone to run on a 5000 mAh battery. The battery life of the phone is the same as the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 (version), which also has the same battery capacity. The giant drummer holds the exhibition for more than a day, in some cases up to two days. When used extensively, the phone’s battery life is reduced to about 15 hours, which is still a modest sign that most low-budget smartphones do not respond to.

Your phone supports fast 15W charging with the included charger. However, download times are not fast. Charging 100% with a discharged battery takes more than three hours.

Galaxy M20 hands-on: Meet Samsung’s most competitive budget mobile phone

Cracks nobody loves them, but we control them with smartphones because the manufacturers ask us. Well, it was Apple that made celebrity, and as the clock, the Android OEM has begun to copy it in order to sell smartphones based on what they look like on the latest iPhone. Samsung has been shopping longer, but this year, the Korean giant has also collapsed.

The Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 are the first new model of Samsung M phones. They have a new Infinity-V display, Samsung’s official name for the water drop screen. Currently, the M10 and M20 have exclusive access to the Infinity-V screen because subsequent devices, such as the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy S10, have Infinity-O displays that use snippets around the screen. Notch and cutting are, of course, an obstacle that no one has asked for, but it will be fashionable in the near future.

The Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 will lead to the cost of Samsung’s attempts to stop Chinese OEMs from attacking low-budget smartphones, especially in the Indian market. The Galaxy M20 is the most interesting of the two, with features such as a 5000 mAh battery, a fairly powerful processor and a very wide rear camera. The price is also impressive, at least for the Galaxy smartphone.

I managed to use the Galaxy M20 for a few days, so join me in looking for your first impressions on the device.

The Samsung Galaxy M20 is useful
A drop of water on the Galaxy M20 doesn’t look completely different from some Chinese offerings. But what immediately catches my attention is how the notch allows the phone to get the 6.3-inch screen without the dimensions that appear on Galaxy phones with a standard Infinity display. And you can’t say for sure that the 5000 mAh battery is. The phone is, of course, thick, but it is quite compact in terms of screen size and battery capacity offered.

Unfortunately, Samsung chose the LCD screen and my first impressions were not very positive. The paintings looked a bit cheap and I couldn’t figure out the exact reason. There is also slight bleeding from the backlight around the notch, and there is a much darker dot at the edges of the notch, though this is only the case when you look at the screen from a corner with white images (for example, when notifications appear).

Of course, the most important question is how much interference the incision uses in everyday use. Well, this cannot be offered by the referee yet, but it does not seem to have much effect as there is a space bar on the left and right of the notch so it does not interfere with vertical applications. In fact, it doesn’t affect horizontal applications or content, such as videos and games, though the reason is slightly different.

As you can see, when the phone is horizontal or playing a video or game, the area next to the notch is always dark. This makes the Infinity-V display a standard Infinity display with larger frame options, which makes me wonder what the purpose would be to allow an extra display device by inserting a notch. The only feature I see is that the overall surface area of the device is smaller despite the size of the screen, which is similar to the size of the Galaxy flagship smartphones with screens of 6.2 to 6.3 inches.

Now let’s talk about the camera. I was so excited to know that behind the M10 and the M20 is a very wide camera. It’s more convenient than having just one camera lens for peach photography, and Samsung’s intelligent transfer brings extra-large images to the budget segment. And you get Live Focus, even though it’s a software-based feature for front and rear cameras. I can’t talk about the quality of the cameras at the moment, but I added a picture taken with a standard and very wide camera for the quick comparison below.

I am not commenting on performance and battery life. The M20-powered Exynos 7904 is a temporary Exynos 7885 display, but with a lower clock frequency for Cortex-A73 performance centers, it should offer better honor than any economic mobile phone previously released by Samsung. The phone feels soft and quickly out of the box, but it’s still possible to see if it will remain a flagship after so few days of use.

Samsung Galaxy M20 Specifications And Software

The most interesting thing about the Galaxy M20 series is its new processor Exynos 7904. This exotic name unit was launched less than two weeks ago and is designed specifically for the high-end smartphone sectors in India. In addition to the GPU Mali-G71, it features two high-performance 1.8MHz core ARM Cortex-A73 and six-core 1.6MHz low-power ARM Cortex-A53.

Samsung tends to use the same processors on many models, sometimes for several years. As this is our first experience with the Exynos 7904, our standards tell us how to compete with other manufacturers’ Qualcomm and MediaTek models.

The Galaxy M20 is available with 3GB RAM and 32GB R memory. 10,990 or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage for Rs. 12990. We have the final verification specification, and a quick look at the market shows that many other models at this price level do not have a lot of RAM or storage space, which could be an advantage for Samsung.

The rest of the specifications are generally in this price range. Screen resolution 1080 x 2340, density 409ppi. The battery is 5000 mAh and Samsung says the 15-watt charger will fill it up quickly. Let’s say ten minutes is enough to play three hours of video or 11 hours of music.

The main rear camera is a 13 megapixel unit with an f / 1.9 aperture, while the secondary camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and a 120-degree field of view. The front camera has 8 MP. Dual VoLTE is supported and you can use LTE with any SIM card at any time.

It looks like Samsung has cut some corners with the accessories in the box. In addition to a 15-watt charger and a USB Type-C cable, the SIM terminal has only one end: no cover or screen protector, and no headphones on the Play Xiaomi book page.

It’s a bit disappointing to see Android 8.1, but at least it was updated with a January 2019 security patch during the review. The Galaxy M20 has a Samsung Experience UI as its new One One interface is still in beta. If you have used your Samsung phone recently, you will not find much news or innovations here.

Unfortunately, another thing that hasn’t changed is Samsung’s desire to show ads everywhere. From the moment we start this phone, we will meet them. The full lock screen is now a notification: Samsung has included an app called Glance that displays a different image or promotional product every time this phone wakes up in a comment. Translations not only distract attention but also replace useful messages.

During the first few hours of using this phone, we often saw click emails to drive traffic to websites or apps. We were sometimes asked to vote in polls on cricket numbers or consumer goods. Some of them were just loud announcements.

Eventually, we were able to disable this by choosing “wallpaper” instead of “wallpaper and stories” when setting up a new wallpaper for the lock screen, but we didn’t have to dig as much as we did to find this solution. If we buy this phone, this level of penetration will greatly aggravate us, and we truly believe that Samsung must reduce their earning aspirations.

In addition, we receive a wide range of spam notifications from the My Galaxy application and some pre-installed applications. No matter how many useful add-ons the manufacturer’s interface provides, this will make us miss the Android stock.
